William Jeffery / June 12, 2020
Are students’ mental health and their ability to socialize a priority at your school? In this episode of the “Flipboard EDU Podcast,” we interview author and award-winning public speaker Shelly Sanchez Terrell about social-emotional learning. In light of the traumatic experiences that our students have faced over the last two months, there is a need for educators to prioritize healing and making sense of the world with students. In times like these, it’s a gift to have good friends to lean on, especially if they are like Shelly.
Shelly is a teacher trainer, e-learning specialist, and the author of the books “The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers: Small Steps to Transform Your Teaching” and “Learning to Go: Lesson Ideas for Teaching with Mobile Devices, Cell Phones, and BYOT.” She has traveled the world as an educational expert and is respected as a professional development pundit. Shelly’s work has been recognized by the ELTon Awards, The New York Times, NPR, and Microsoft’s Heroes for Education. She was named Woman of the Year 2014 by Star Jones’s National Association of Professional Women and awarded a Bammy Award as a founder of #Edchat.
Now that so many are finally aware of systemic injustice and how it has infiltrated all aspects of society, Shelly provides ways for teachers to address this topic in their classrooms. We also discuss listening to each other with the intention of making real connections and building alliances.
