Carl Hooker’s tweets about education shown on Flipboard

In this episode, we speak with Carl Hooker, the Mad Hatter of teaching and technology integration. Carl was instrumental early in my career as I transitioned to become a digital learning specialist fresh out of school. I attended amazing professional development sessions that Carl led at conferences like ISTE and TCEA. Known as the “Godfather” of learning festivals, Carl is also an innovator in the professional development space and one of the masterminds of the international conference “iPadpalooza,” which has evolved into “LearnFestATX.”  Moreover, Carl is the host of the BAM Radio’s Learning Unleashed ISTE Podcast and the author of best-selling “The Mobile Mindset” book series.

Aside from his speaking and consulting work, Carl works as an advisor for multiple edtech companies as well as for the Future Ready Schools Initiative. He regularly posts to his blog, HookEDonInnovation.com, and contributes guest posts to Tech & Learning, Huffington Post, and Edutopia.

During our interview, Carl shared myriad ideas about the evolving landscape of professional development during COVID-19. We asked him about one of his latest blog posts, “A Beginner’s Toolkit for Teaching Remotely,” in which he details five key components in support of remote teaching. We will also share weekly FlipTips from Terry Porter and Janette Speyer. We end this episode, in the spirit of Teacher Appreciation Week, by honoring educators who curate on Flipboard:  Josh Allen, Linda Bernstein, Clay Reisler, Michael James, Liz Cho, Wesley Fryer, and Bret Biornstad.
