The time is now for decentralized social media. From the exodus from X, to the rise of Bluesky, to Mastodon’s distributed communities, federated social networks represent a re-ordering of the web — its greatest shift since Web 2.0. The open social movement swings away from Big Tech’s oligarchies and top-down governance to a decentralized ecosystem that prioritizes ownership, autonomy, and human connection.

Flipboard and Surf are excited to host the first-ever Fediverse House devoted to this urgent, burgeoning space. Join us at SXSW 2025 to learn about the brave new world of decentralized social media and why it promises a better way for consumers, creators, brands, and even democracy itself.

Located just three blocks from the Austin Convention Center, at the Speakeasy (412 Congress Ave.), the Fediverse House creates a space for strategic conversations, networking opportunities, and refreshments throughout the day. You’ll hear from visionaries, builders, and open-source advocates from places like Bluesky, Threads, and the Social Web Foundation.

Our schedule and programming lineup is stacked (and still evolving), but it’s looking like the place to be for anyone interested in the future of social. Check out our Website for the latest panel info and invite links. We’ll continue to update it right up to the event.

Please RSVP to the event as a whole and/or the segments you are interested in. This helps us to gauge interest and refreshment needs. Start here for everything — https://lu.ma/xbve5fa0 — then drill down to specific RSVPs from that page.

Will you be in Austin during this time and/or want to get involved? Let us know by using the hashtag on any federated social network.

See you soon!
