Today, Flipboard is beginning to federate publishers in Brazil and expanding the federation of publisher partners in Canada, Germany and the U.K. People using Mastodon in any of these countries can now follow news curation and lifestyle coverage from some of their most popular national media outlets. This update brings 150 new publishers and over 2,000 new Flipboard Magazines to people in the fediverse and greatly expands the number of international publications participating via Flipboard.
If you’re still getting up to speed on the fediverse, it is an open ecosystem connecting many independent social networks. Flipboard is joining by opening its platform, making the content, curation and communities on Flipboard available to anyone using a fediverse service.
This next wave of federated Flipboard accounts brings diverse stories on topics like world news, science breakthroughs, sports events, and lifestyle trends to people on federated networks, such as Mastodon and soon Threads.
Similar to our U.S. publisher roll-out, we are testing federation with a limited number of partners and will continue to expand over the coming months.
