It’s almost a century since Carter G. Woodson, a historian and the son of former slaves, came up with the idea for what would evolve into Black History Month. In 2025, we need it more than ever. Here are some of the ways we’ve been sharing and highlighting stories about Black history on Flipboard.

Newsletters

Almost every day this month, we’ve included stories about Black history in our 10 For Today newsletter. These have been on subjects as diverse as how Little Richard brought Black and queer culture to the airwaves to the Black family that owns the site of the country’s biggest slave revolt. We’ve also had special themed versions of our Wanderlust, The Shot and Good Life newsletters — the latter was curated by Jessica Bethel, a brilliant photographer and founder of book club Literature Noir.

Magazines

Throughout the year, we curate our Stories of Black America Magazine, which is added to our topics system and featured throughout the app. A number of our partners also have specialist Magazines dedicated to Black history, including the News Literacy Project and NBC. Many Flipboard users curate Magazines about Black history. Check out Michel Hobson’s Black Celebrity News and Glittah’s Black Americans Magazine

Storyboards

Throughout this month and beyond, we and our partners have created Storyboards on a range of subjects: The Importance of Black History MonthMust-Watch TV for Black History Month, 6 people to know for Black History Month and more.

Publishers

We have many publishers on Flipboard that focus on telling stories from Black perspectives — these include The Root, News One, Capital B News, Atlanta Black Star, LEVEL and Essence,
