Trusted news is getting harder to find
Seen a wild election claim in a social feed lately? There’s a decent chance it was created with AI. New reporting from TNW finds AI-generated election misinformation is spreading across social media ahead of the midterms, and most of it is slipping past the big platforms’ filters.
It’s not hard to see why. Convincing fake images, videos and claims are cheap to churn out at scale. Meanwhile, many networks have pulled back on human moderation and handed more of the job to automation and users.
Factor in that 59% of U.S. adults get news from social media and the stakes come into focus. Heading into Election Day on November 3, it is critical to know where your information is coming from and that you can trust the platform serving it up. That’s why we created Vote 2026.
Why you can trust Flipboard
We’ve been at this a long time, and our values haven’t changed.
People have always played a big role in moderating what’s shared on Flipboard, and they still do. Our engineers call the process a “layer cake.” The first layer starts with a vetted set of publishers and outlets fed into our algorithm. Of course, an algorithm can’t tell the difference between the truth and a lie, so we add the next layer: human editors. This team looks for misinformation, spam, plagiarism and offensive content, and when they spot bad actors, they remove their content. That’s the kind of judgment you can’t automate.
