As promised, you can now connect your Pixelfed account to Flipboard. Pixelfed is an open-source Instagram alternative that’s part of the federated social web. By integrating with Flipboard, Pixelfed content joins a host of other photo-related Flipboard feeds and collections, including #photography and The Photography Exchange, giving photography enthusiasts one place to stay up on their industry, craft and community.

Here’s how to connect your Pixelfed account to Flipboard so that you can get Pixelfed photos in a beautiful, flippable format within our app. If you don’t have a Pixelfed account, you can create one here.

1. Make sure your Flipboard app is updated to version 4.3.5 (iOS) and 4.3.14 (Android).

2. On iOS, go to your Following tab (a grid with four squares) and select Accounts. On Android, go to Settings > Connected accounts.

3. Select “Pixelfed (beta)” and enter your Pixelfed credentials.

4. Authorize Flipboard to access your Pixelfed account.

5. Now you can flip through Pixelfed on Flipboard!

Remember: use the + to save posts into a Flipboard Magazine. You can also use the social actions on each item within Flipboard to like, comment on, and re-share items to Pixelfed via Flipboard.

This makes three federated services that now connect to Flipboard. In addition to Pixelfed, you can also link your Bluesky and/or Mastodon accounts to our platform. (If you don’t yet have a home in the Fediverse, you’re welcome to request to join our Mastodon instance at flipboard.social.)

Here’s to another big step beyond the “walled gardens” of today’s social media. Stay tuned for more news about our federated future.
